40% fewer APPGs in April 2024 register

parl

New rules have come into force regarding APPGs, resulting in the number of groups being cut dramatically. More than 40% have de-registered, including more than half of the country groups. The total number is down from 723 to 435.

The new rules mean that an APPG:-

1. Cannot be funded or provided a secretariat by a foreign government

2. Must have a maximum of 4 officers

3. Must have at least 20 members from across the House of Commons and House of Lords

4. Are required to publish an annual report if in receipt of more than £1,500 in funding or benefits

In addition, MPs are allowed to become an officer of up to 6 APPGs (it was previously unlimited)

As before, APPGs are required to be on the register held by Parliament. You can download a copy of the register here:-
