Could the standards committee cut the number of APPGs?

A report today in Politico suggests that MPs on the Standards Committee are considering a cull of All Party Parliamentary Groups, saying that the large number of APPGs that exist makes it difficult to guarantee compliance.

The committee has also suggested that the Commons Deputy Speaker might act as a "gatekeeper" for APPGs to review their purpose and structure, to ensure that they are genuinely cross-party and are able to avoid undue influence from external agencies.
