Bury South MP Christian Wakeford has been elected unopposed to lead the APPG on Alcohol Harm. The APPG sets out to promote the discussion of alcohol-related issues, raise matters of concern and to make recommendations to Government and other policy-makers.

Christian says, "During this pandemic, many have turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism and we have seen a rise in domestic abuse cases. With the information and research this APPG will undertake, the APPG will focus on the Domestic Violence Bill and call for the inclusion of alcohol as part of the bills remit.

"We have much work ahead of us and I’m optimistic that the research provided in relation to alcohol abuse will encourage people to recognise that a change is needed now. I look forward to working alongside key stakeholders and leading organisations to raise awareness about alcohol abuse and help change this pattern of alcohol consumption."
