APPG DS moves to CloudFlare

server

The APPG DS platform, providing websites for All Party Parliamentary Groups, is moving its hosting to CloudFlare. This will provide an additional layer of performance, security and resilience between the website platform and the wider internet. Rather than every visitor connecting directly to the web server, Cloudflare can securely handle and optimise traffic before passing legitimate requests through.

One of the most noticeable benefits is speed. Frequently requested content can be cached and delivered from Cloudflare’s global network, reducing loading times and the workload placed on the underlying hosting infrastructure. This can make websites feel faster and more responsive, particularly for visitors further away from the main server.

Cloudflare also provides important security protection. It can identify and filter malicious or suspicious traffic, help protect against denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks and reduce the exposure of the underlying server. Automated bots and other unwanted traffic can also be controlled before they consume hosting resources. These issues have been particularly prevalent in politics recently.

There are benefits for reliability and capacity, too. By absorbing and distributing traffic, Cloudflare can help a platform cope with sudden increases in visitors without placing the same pressure on its servers.

For website users and visitors, the result is largely invisible: pages simply load quickly and securely, while the platform gains an additional layer of protection and resilience.

We are not charging extra for this service: it's provided as part of the APPG DS platform. Migration should be complete within a few days.
