Beauty and Wellbeing APPG launches UV safety inquiry

The APPG for Beauty and Wellbeing has launched an inquiry into UV safety, calling for evidence with a view to pushing for increased protection from UV damage. The APPG was relaunched in April, is chaired by Caroline Harris MP and supported by the British Beauty Council.
The APPG refers to the 16,000 new cases of melanoma skin cancer and 2,300 deaths each year in the UK. 57% of people say that sunscreen is too expensive.
Key areas of focus that the inquiry will seek evidence on include:
- The principle of UV safety is a basic need
- The principle of UV safety is a year-round issue
- The affordability and accessibility of UV safety
- If a change in approach can help to relieve the burden on the NHS
- The effectiveness of education on UV safety
The APPG will compile its findings and report to Government in Spring 2026.
